I'm sorry but I don't see it that way. I think when he was a little kid he pretty much promise Miya he would cure him. So he is doing whatever it takes for that to happen.

Even though I know the story is probably gonna be them turning into lovers or stuff like that in the end, but I think Rei is just using Miya for experiments and stuff :(
