I think it was yui's actual memory, yes. sad as that is. but I agree, no little kid should make that choice.
it especially breaks my heart because I feel just a bit more attached to Fai than the rest of them. his back story broke my heart. and I have to prepare myself for it every time, and even then end up sobbing. I have to pause several times through his back story.
honestly, I love all the characters mostly equally in this one. they all have such fucking tragic backstories man. But the story is so fun and can be so lighthearted at times.
Seeiously though!! And okay, I thought it was his real memory, but I wasn't sure how much Reed played into it. Does that make sense?? And I know, but I can't help but crawl back to his story because I want to love on him!! <3 they all have horrible backstories but that's also what makes this one of the best manga out there in my opinion, because it shows how far they've come from which they were.
this was my very first manga I bought the first volume in English at a book store, when it was the only volume out. probably close to fifteen years ago? I fell in love with it instantly. I like adventure things like this a lot. especially with them tragic backstories. (because i'm weird and like sadness in my stories)
I have had to re-read this one probably ten or more times before I organized the end and how the timeline laid out. it was a bit complicated. so I understand the having questions. Reed most likely gave him that memory so that fai would be motivated to kill kurogane, so Reed would bring back yui. that was the deal.
Fai's pure heart just kills me. even after everything, that kid still just is such a loving marshmallow.

and you know we all cry a little when kurogane saved Fai in the Tokyo ark. that shit gets to me every fucking time. "Save him!"". I love all of them, but I LOVE the bond between Kurogane and fai the most. they had each others back, can see right through each others BS, and just accept them. plus, all the joking and poking fun :) mommy and daddy of the group as makona would say

Yeah. It's so beautiful. I have the tendency to go through couples I love by the drop of a hat, but these two have just stayed with me for, like, seven years.
I think Yuui also said to let Fai go. In the other translation, at chapter 165
"The one below...Fai... said that you should be the one set free. Now, what will you do?"
"Fai can die! So..let Yuui go!"
So I think all along, what Yuui remember is the memory that is being altered.

actually this story was indeed one hell of a little confusing, tearjerking, heartbreaking tragic story. it'll make you cry and feel so tragic.. (btw. im a little annoyed coz sakura and shaoran of CCS&CCS-CCH seldom appear in this. like WTF. how good would it be if they somehow met then fought side by side to the enemies. )

So we see Fai-chan's (the real Fai, not Yuui pretending to be Fai) decision to save Yuui-chan in chapter 159. My question is this... Did Yuui actually say "save me over Fai" (or something of the sort)?
I only see Fai's declaration of "SAVE YUUI", but I don't see Yuui saying "save me".
So, is this like a, Fei Wang Reed is just making Yuui feel bad for Fai's decision kind of thing, or did he alter Yuui's memories, or am I just missing something completely? It's driven me crazy for so long! Anyone out there know or have any theories?
Because, like, my poor baby! I'm thinking, UH, DUH. You were a kid, Yuui-chan. Either way, whether you chose to save yourself or Fai-chan, it's completely understandable. No one should have to make that decision!! UGH!! If I could, I would sucker-punch Reed in the face, yank out his tongue, and kick him in the nuts. I hate that guy. Who's with me?
