i think its less of a period and more how animals bleed a little just before going into heat, its a part of the preheat phase. whereas humans have periods after the "heat" or ovulation phase!

Actually humans “aren’t in heat during menstruation” because humans are basically always in heat. Yes, when we release an egg is usually two weeks after menstruation, but it’s not always true. Some women do ovulate during menstruation, or rather it can be un-regular during different times during a woman’s life time. The reason humans have over-taken the planet is because we have sex, even when we aren’t ovulating. We are thought to be the most sex obsessed animal in anthropology / biology thoughts. Well I haven’t looked to see if that is still considered true by the majority of scientists.
