Ngl so far, I don’t think the romance was developed well. Starting from the first problem: the duke/ian. It took a single chapter/max 3 days for him to do a complete 180 and automatically know how to act better when he couldn’t understand how to do that for years? The character development happened off screen. It felt odd seeing him be all angry and always insulting to completely being all nice and gentlemanly in the very next scene he appeared in. I think this was a failure on the author’s part. It felt like they just wanted to skip over the progress lmao. Despite this, I think they did well on developing the progress between the child and Leona. The author showed many scenes over time and some reoccurring habits the kid had even after their relationship got better, which felt realistic.

Anyways after the initial issue with the change in character, the next issue is the amount of development between the duke + Luca. Neither had enough screen time or moments for the mc to even know much about them. And judging by the chapters, the mc will already like him starting now. It also didn’t make much sense for the mc to be crying over Luca when most of the time she found him either just nice or suspicious. The overall romance development was so rushed and non-existent compared to the child-mother development.

My take on this: if you’re looking for a good romance story, this ain’t it. But if you’re looking for a good parent/kid story, this is good.
