Would you cheat/sleep with someone else just because the person you love wanted you to?

BrokenEchoes June 23, 2024 3:44 pm

I know I wouldn't. Which is why I can't forgive Carcel for that. And it's not like he knew Ines wanted him to cheat either so that was all on him too. (And if you would do that, I honestly don't know what to say to you). However I can appreciate that he's having some character development now.

As for his mother, if someone put that much thought into designing a place for me, I would melt and die happy. The introvert in me loves her for that. Hope she doesn't hurt Ines in the future.

i know you are looking it from your perspective anf you tryna project some of your feeling in this but for starters they were not lovers, it was mostly a political relationship between the families, so coming back to your question. yea i would have relationship with other people if the one i am gonna marry doesnt give a shit about me ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ . also why do people only read the firts 3 chapters and dont ry to understand the story?

Sorry to burst your bubble but Carcel has not been given character development. What you see is exactly who Carcel has always been. The later arcs will prove it to readers in spades. What the manhwa has been showing is his CHARACTER REVELATION. Who he is as a person rather than who Ines falsely thinks he is.

What I find the most amusing are readers thinking their forgiveness has bearing on the story. Sure, they can continue to complain in the comments section and focus only on Carcel’s past but their feelings have no bearing on the story. They always think they’re advocating for Ines while disregarding what Ines actually thinks and wants. This is the strange phenomenon I find about readers of this story who claim to care about Ines.

I didn't say they were lovers. I said someone you (he) loves. There's a difference. I wouldn't sleep with someone if I was in love with someone else, even if I thought they didn't love me. That's not how my heart works. Maybe it's different for you and that's fine. We're all allowed to have our own opinions.

I'm completely up to date with the story and I understand it perfectly. I can point out a character's flaws and love a story at the same time. Again, it's fine if you can't do that yourself. We're all different after all.

I haven't read the later arcs so there's no point in expecting me to know whether it's character development or character revelation.

I'd argue that it's development though because I've SEEN him fool around with another women and now I SEE him choosing not to. That means he's changed in some way, hence the word "development". I just hope he doesn't do anything dumb in the future. That would be character revelation .

Carcel didn’t even know he loved Ines until she almost died around ep34 or so. I truly don’t understand why some readers are confused about this when it was portrayed in the manhwa when he was crying by her bedside. It’s in hindsight that Carcel realized he might have liked her when he was a teenager.

I'm not sure what part of my comment implied that my forgiveness/feelings have any bearing on the story. Feel free to enlighten me .

I can love Ines as a character and dislike a character that she loves because I'm a reader and we're two separate people.

If a FL was in love with an abusive ML, do I have to love that ML just because she does and I care about her? I don't think so. Is that so hard to understand?

That's debatable. Just because you haven't named an emotion, it doesn't make that emotion non existent.

But if that was the case, it would mean that he pursued Ines prior to and in the earlier days of their marriage purely because he wanted her for her body only. Which is equally gross and would be yet another reason for me to dislike him.

Honey, what exactly have you been reading? I’m convinced the manhwa is either doing a terrible job at adapting this story or readers just don’t understand this story. When exactly was Carcel pursuing Ines?

The early days you are referring to didn’t even involve courtship. When Carcel got ready to court Ines, she refused to see him and rejected his visits. That was when he was still a virgin and he decided to walk away because on some level he understood she didn’t give a damn about him.

Let me break it down to you. Engaged people normally try to meet and grow their relationship in preparation for marriage. It’s why we saw in a flashback that the crown prince often visited Ines’s home and they had 10 years of courtship. Poor Carcel was being used by Ines since he was 6 years old so none of the friendly courtship was experienced by him. Even Oscar got treated better by her than him. During this period of time, Carcel didn’t even know what love is. It’s later when he’s married Carcel learned what love is by identifying the feeling. And even so, I doubt it was anything strong that Carcel realized in hindsight that he might have felt as a teenager. It’s more than likely just a quiet feeling of affection which if allowed to grow would have turned into love.

Exactly. Ines isn’t even like them so her feelings aren’t like theirs. They’re probably self-inserting in place of Ines. They should recognize this isn’t an Isekai story. Ines is not the least bit disturbed by Carcel’s premarital life.

More and more I understand why some novel readers are annoyed that this story was released through Kakao. By this mere fact, it attracts readers that shouldn’t even be reading this story that’s intended for a mature audience. If Ridibooks had been the manhwa publisher, it would have been abundantly clear that this is aimed at mature readers.

It's fine for him to love her, not know he loves her, and decides to sleep around because Ines had no interest in him. You're speaking as if you expect a man to keep clinging onto you when you don't want his love or attention. Some who call him a possessive stalker while others would be happy that he's leaving them alone. Ines was happy he left her alone. She didn't want him clinging onto her since her plan was for him to stray. Ines knew he was interested in her when they were young, and that made her double down on making him lose interest in her. It was just coincidental enough that the time when she least paid attention to him with her plotting that made him finally acted on what she wanted.

    snapplecider June 23, 2024 9:56 pm

Why does your forgiveness matter? YOU are not the one in a relationship with him. Ines doesn't have to forgive him when SHE never felt he had done anything wrong. Even if Carcel was to apologize, SHE would tell him to stop apologizing when he had done nothing wrong.

Love how everyone's take on this is what Carcel's mother said about Carcel but somehow ignore what she said about Ines. She didn't only call out Carcel's wrongs. She also called out Ines' wrongs for not even paying any attention to her son. This just proves that there are people who can see that Ines wasn't a good fiancee either so Carcel also has every right to stray. Everyone is thinking that Carcel is the one that's bad but why should he cling to a girl who didn't even like him. If a boy I didn't like kept clinging to me just because he loves me, I would get annoyed so I would be happy if he slept around and left me alone. They weren't even dating. They were in a forced engagement that Ines forced to go with her plans. So you're telling me that you'll force a boy who you don't like into an engagement with you and expect him to cling to you just because he likes you but you don't even like him. Sure.

I've been reading the story fine and the manhwa is doing a great job because I don't completely hate Carcel. I just hate that he's sometimes inconsiderate during sex and that he slept around while they were engaged. I don't care if that was the norm back in those times.

Thank you for the break down but none of that changes what I think. Carcel started properly courting Ines after she caught him with that women right at the beginning and that was only because he wanted to prove that she was wrong about him. Around the same time he started getting physically attracted to her.

He later admits that he felt bad after sleeping with the first woman. Why would he feel bad if he didn't feel anything for Ines in the first place? Pretty sure he went out to the military because he couldn't bear her lack of interest too.

So he must have had some awareness of his feelings but decided to sleep with that woman anyway. Possibly out of spite because Ines was ignoring him.

I'm not saying Ines was right to do what she did but at least we can understand why she did it. She had two lifetimes of trauma to work through. What's his excuse?

Clearly we have very different definitions of love. I don't believe you can sleep with someone else when you truly love someone.

If he knew she wasn't interested in him and decided to marry someone else - and sleep only with them - then it wouldn't be so bad. But he held onto her and fooled around. I'm sure being disliked by someone he was interested in him was hard but it's no excuse.

From his point of view, he could have broken things off with her first. However from a reader's point of view, this flaw in his character is necessary to the story. I accept it but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

When did I say my forgiveness matters in the story?

They're fictional. It doesn't matter. I wouldn't get engaged to a boy with the intent of divorcing him later in the first place. And if I wasn't dating him, which I wouldn't do if I had no interest in him, he would be free to do what he likes. But that wasn't the case in this story and I'm free to dislike certain behaviours if I want to.

Wait, so you think a person’s conscience only work if they’re in love? What kind of nonsense is this? Someone can regret their behavior after realizing they were wrong, immature, irresponsible, etc. Regretting sleeping with the first woman when he was a teenager is naturally something any teenager would feel after losing their virginity. Even teenagers who are in a relationship can feel guilt after sleeping with their boyfriend or girlfriend for the first time.

Carcel never courted Ines in this timeline. Ines showed up in front of him to work her reverse psychology to remind him that they are 23 years old and way passed the marriage age. I just love how the manhwa have people here thinking that Ines showed up without motive. She schemed that entire thing so she can prompt him to propose marriage so she can set her divorce plan in motion. Manhwa got people thinking Ines is some kind of saint when she’s far from it. They always justify all her behavior. Kind of reminds me of that saying about characters who have trauma is always given a pass to walk all over people.

I honestly wished you totally hated Carcel rather than half-assing it. However, that’s not my problem so it doesn’t matter in the end.

He held on to her? She’s the one who held on to him so that she can use him. Her father wanted to break the engagement and she’s the one who prevented it because she has her plan to use him. Just to show how ungrateful she is, this is the kind of thing she intended to do to someone who save her ass, her child and her lover that she ran away with. He risk his family being accused as traitors to help her in the previous timeline and she deliberately decided to use him and dump him after he helped her in the previous life. What a good woman she is and how blind are her simps to her faults.
