Yeah honestly, this is probably their worst work when it comes to logic. I usually like what they put out but this one has been kind of dumb dumb due to the MC's incompetence.
I agree with you but we also need to remember that because of his injuries, he is not a good assassin anymore and that is why he had to quit physically he isn't disabled or anything however in the first few chapters it talks about how his senses have significantly dulled and how he is much weaker both physically and also mentally.

I think he got injured in the head which affected his perspective and his surrounding awareness. That is what ML mentioned also. He is worried that MC is unable to sense danger from behind.
