Oh, no... Not a freelancer but somewhat similar to that. I just quit that exhausting job just now coz it's taking a toll on my mental health. Luckily, taking a break because of one's mental health is a perfectly valid excuse to the one I'm affiliated with.

You know what? If she's a old trusted friend then try to find out if she's using you or not and if it's other way around, then be straightforward and simply cut her off from your life after telling her how you're feeling or not, it's your preference. When a seed of doubt is grown, you can't shake it off, no matter what so, yeah

Tbh, I have huge trust issues from getting used by people because I'm pretty academically good + i came from a middle/upper-middle class family while living in a poor/working/lower middle class neighborhood so idk if it's my trust issues acting up or guts + I feel exhausted at the fact that I get to go to college on a state uni while she's a dropped out from a well-known private uni in our country and when I get to complain that I'm exhausted abt this and that coz of college, I'll feel guilty when she's ranting coz they're still paying off her tuition even if she already dropped out and she can't get her credentials if she still hadn't paid her tuition off.

I feel conflicted but I feel like I'm kinda responsible to keep her company coz I got better arrangements. Anw, sorry ranting. I feel like I can't tell any of my friends yet even if I had one too many(ᗒᗩᗕ)

Try to find out, that's the only solution you have left. If she's precious to you and you just can't let her go, try to make it work with her. Talk with her in a relaxing place, like a cafe or something. And if you have already experienced this type of thing, then it's entirely possible your gut feeling is correct. Years don't matter, if they made up their mind to betray you then they will do it, friendship doesn't cost shit to some people.

From what you're saying, she isn't grateful for the things she have, and that might include friends too. So, better be careful than sorry and that isn't your responsibility, it's not your fault she got stuck in such a situation. She is at fault.
