heres my guess: reizen is the true villain lmao he looks/sounds so sus that im guessing he managed to trick her in her past life (prolly what got her killed, i'm guessing hes a demon worshipper and maybe the one who gave the nobles the idea to do the ritual)... plus the crown prince was surely in love with her and is feeling guilty (and not sleeping well) because he failed to save her
