My general thoughts on the story and how it changed my mind:

I began reading this story with not much thought, just another interesting story with a fucked up plot. I enjoy psychoanalyzing the characters in this kind of stories so I began it years ago thinking it wouldn't be too long.
Flash forward, it's years later and this story has dona a complete 180 flip and changed into something really interesting. The ML's inner turmoil and trauma that lead to his sadistic tendencies is very well written although difficult to grasp at first since we don't have all the pieces of how it came to be.
Meanwhile the MC, Yu, is also very interesting as a character, although a bit dull and naive his heart is pure and he has good morals that at the beginning of the story pose a harsh contrast to the deviant nature of the ML takamada. It's been crazy seeing them reconcile and actually fall in love and end up experiencing actually healthy (although a bit inexperienced) ways to cope with takamada's tendencies/kinks. It's a really good read with amazing and expressive art. If you aren't triggered by some of the stuff at the first 30 chapters I suggest you read this!!

I agree, the psychological struggle is pretty wel written for a manga. I would almost think the author knows someone like Takamada...
