i fr get what ur saying but i think freds “feelings” for angela are moreso a fixation/obsession or even admiration as we see many panels where fred is reminded of his own mother and the way angela is the only one who brings these emotions out of him. he tells rayburn he likes her but then in later chapters speaks of hoping rayburn will continue to love and protect her. as for princess garnet their relationship being strictly political as even garnet doesn’t have feelings for fred. fred talks about how while at first he felt sympathy and pity for the princess he soon realized she looked at him the same way everyone else looked at him.
sorry if this is annoying or unnecessary opinion i totally understand ur pov! :))
the thread tying Angela and Ferderick feels very forced and artificial, it's like the author wanted a love triangle from the start but didn't actually want to work on making it develop properly.
A shame that the only reason he fell for Angela is because she's the author and how 'different' she is. I wish they made the reason more grounded, like, Making him feel enough or have his sociopathic reasons validated.
his character is derived from tropes that makes him really interesting, yet feels so flat and 2 dimensional.
