I think Desharow actually died when he drowned as a kid, maybe Agares did something to change his body constitution, so he came back to life. And that is the reason why he see him as his mate, I don't know, maybe there is something like eating mermaid's pearl or drinking their blood (⊙…⊙ )

Wellllll… you’re seeing a lot of this from desharow’s perspective. Agaras has his reasons and they’re super weird because he’s been plotting for a looooong time. Probably one of the most unique novels I’ve ever read, even if I couldn’t finish it.
I didn't read the novel so it was just a guess, i am waiting for mor chap to get a clearer ideas ( ‾ ◡ ‾ ) the plot seems interesting
My theory: Desharow is a mermaid. Why? Cause the mermaid eater went after him rather than Agaras. Also Agaras is soo attracted to him. Maybe Desharow will change later. But who knows. We'll see
