Dan knows JK is bad, you can see him having flashbacks of JK raping him. Dan isn't regressing to a childlike state. Not to mention, he is justifying everything done.
Anyways, this is a perfect example of a victim of abuse falling in love with their abuser.
Dan is a pushover, probably because of how he grew up and due to the fact that JK did due some things for him. Such as removing debt, free housing, and being friendly with the grandma.
JK has no excuse of raping Dan, and I mean that. 37, a recent chapter where JK forced him down and forced him to have sex. Rape. Dan being drugged, rape. Not to mention JK tried to use violence if Dan didn't want to.
Dan had no choice but to due sex work, or else he's grandma may die. Or else he loses housing, or else he'll lose his job and we saw in the beginning no one is willing to hire him.
