Damnn, someone's with the same thoughts as mine. The story really depends on the reader of it. It's not just about the power they both have but about the miscommunication they had from the past and how it was improved in their future selves. I am reading this story again and again because I love the deeper meaning of the story. Having a soulmate or loving someone really takes all your bravery to trust them, fully commit in understanding their short comings and own culture, and to sincerely show the genuinity of love.

I just read it again in one sitting, and I just realized something.
It is that they both actually got reborn, before, I was actually thinking it was only YD. The time that the goddess sent YD to the past was also the same with the emperor. The catch is, that YD retain his memories but the emperor doesn't. And that forgotten memories was what the goddess used as power so that YD could have his adult divine magic back to his young self. In doing so, YD actually developed it further, perfected even and hidden it because that's what he thought the reason he was brought to the palace. Also, the deal that the goddess made with the emperor that she will return the memories if he sacrificed himself for YD. Which actually what he did when sucked the poison from YD knowing he's also already been poisoned.
Anyway, you might ask how I know that the emperor also got reborn. The clue is in the "HOBBY". It was mentioned over and over again that the Jin's will die without finding a hobby or losing their hobby. That's what happen to the general right, when the child her caring died? Though YD thought it was suicide, but it wasn't. So isn't it also true for the emperor when YD died? Also why he'd able to meet and talk with the goddess? He demanded her to return YD to him, so I guess that's what made the goddess did what she did. Because she knew, both of them loved each other but can't seem to understand one another.
All because of one word, HOBBY. The emperor is judging YD in Jin's culture, at the same time YD also is judging the emperor in human culture. Thus, the massive misunderstanding. And YD only find about it in his second life. And thanks to that. the emperor also got to learn humanity as YD learn about JIN's, things they both didn't do in the past. They're both at fault, really.
You can't really judge a story without reading and understanding its entirety. It's a good read. Actually, for me the past of these two is what the current BL's like today. Lots of toxicity and violence, the amount of smut in that past contrast the current timeline to with a very huge gap. Haha. I'm not really just into smut so I like the story. All in all, it spoke positivity. With a second chance, don't fuck up again. Also, forgiving and moving forward, hard but doable even in real life.
