Difference is context. Often in the "take homeless stranger home", the person taking them home is doing it as an act of kindness. They aren't expecting sex, and are often the ones who are assaulted. This trope usually is used to insert rape/dubcon into the plot.
The hooking up with a stranger is different, because both people are approaching the situation with the same expectations.
The whole “I found a drunk, unconscious stranger on the side of the road and decided to bring him home where I proceeded to fuck him or get assaulted by him” is such a weird ass trope. I don’t get why it’s repeated so much.
