I completely understand and know why he is okay eating his darling's food but not other homemade food. It is trust issues. He knows/trusts someone whom is so invested in him though the years not to poison him. He has no idea the motives of the random person. If he was honest and said "Sorry, as much as I would love to. I just have issues eating food I have no control over." he would have gotten out of that situation easy. Okay so they might ask why, but all in all most people respect you when you have a fear of being poisoned.
