I mean, they never said that MC is going to die if he doesn't put his soul there. He would prob continue to live his life "as a human" (in seme's body lmao)... which he could do np while they figure out how to keep both alive.
Also, if we are being strict, BOTH have already lived "past their life span" since every chosen one is doomed to die in the human world. Both should be dead for all accounts. So neither has more of a right to life than the other. It's just generally unfair to wish for the death of a character who has done no wrong whatsoever. Even your argument that "he left the kingdom to rot" is unfair since the chosen one had no say in the matter, his partner being the actual leader who fucked up. As I stated, there certainly is a way to keep both alive and happy, and there's no reason to wish for death to the other guy at this point
