And let's be fair both of them were as far as we see not willing to understand the other, more so on Cole's case (his narrative is what we see) because all throughout his monologue he hasn't tried to understand Alex either, in this issue. Alex didn't say Cole's opinion was unnecessary because he meant it and Cole's argument has weight but the reason why Alex got pissed is because Cole doesn't mean that argument, his problem isn't that, it's that he doesn't want to let go Alex in any way.
