She does need to be protected quite a lot because she doesnt know what she is and who she is in the beginning. She cant even speak the language and doesnt understand but she learns it.
She is a very strong character and its because of her that certain things happen. She is not a weak character and fights herself out of a lot of situations by being her. It is so worth the read! I was surprised at how good it was.
Going a bit more on the other reply, while yes she doesn't really have much in power or strength of body, she still tries hard to help with her limited ability. Yes she sometimes is a damsel in distress but she also works to get out of those situations without just relying on others.
She's strong in her own way. And not a Mary Sue in anyway. Quite a relatable character who finds strength along her way
