Ugh I like the complexity this particular manga of the entire series makes me feel. I feel bad for Kido because *cough* 2nd lead syndrome *cough* but he already has a family and seems to willfully choose that friends path even deep down he has lingering feelings for Rio.
If you read the sequel, Kido mentions that he intentionally ended the physical relationship because Rio only had Kido which is why he wanted to stay in his life. Had they been in a relationship, Rio would probably end up alone if they broke up, which is probably what Kido feared happening. Their relationship is complicated but ends in good terms.
The older sensei was also a great character. I thought he was gonna do something to Rio but thankfully he became an important pillar in Rio's life.
I like this manga very much to think that this isn't even the main story lol.
