You must not be very quick-witted if you couldn't have come up with a way to convince the 3rd wheel to keep it a secret that Nao is your ex. If you told him the truth he might not have even pursued her. It's good that you've been reflecting on your past behavior, but you still got a long way to go. And, no, you shouldn't hesitate and take it slow. She will probably give up waiting for you to express your honest feelings and move on to some other lucky man.
