I agree, him serving jail time was really surprising to me. Usually juries, I mean if that's how the legal system works in SK, would give way to those who were brought into crime as a child. He definitely didn't deserve it since he had nowhere to go, he was being abused, and the guy that "took care" of him was the one that ultimately left him parentless. Ofc its still a great story, and these kind of fantasy elements don't really change the narrative much, but I do agree that irl he most likely would've been left off with either no time or way less time.
Just binge read this, definitely worth the read! Idk wtf people before are complaining about, I loved both Sam and Noah and thought they were decent human beings, despite the gambling ring situation. I liked seeing their characters and relationship change. I do think the story could have been longer, especially more scenes with Mike since I felt he didn't really add much til the very end

I'm honestly surprised Noah did any jail time at all, considering he was literally groomed as a child to be where he ended up and beaten if he disobeyed. The psychological impact of that stuff major. IRL I don't think he'd go to jail for a year, but eh it's fine it just makes it extra cute that Sam waits for him (≧∀≦)
