I think he didn't do it for her, but because he was scared of being laughed at for helping her. After insulting her he realized how stupid his fear was. Or at least that's what it seemed from his face.

So did the bad boy only say that the girl was plain becuz ppl were coming and it was better for her not to be associated with him? is he just bad at communicating like Sayama which is how they will start talking to each other and probably become friends but Saikawa will misunderstand or the bad boy will actually like Sayama.
