how could a beautifully drawn work look and feel so hollow? clunky storytelling and dialogues; insincere worldbuilding and characterisation. It presents derivative themes and conflicts, humanity vs machines vs Frankenstein's monster, with ambition but it lacks challenge. It takes itself very seriously and outpaces the story's tone so much that its many 'strengths' end up flimsy and dull.
Works like this are usually right up my alley, so this one hurt to write
On the one hand, Watanabe's a grade-a douchebag. On the other, he realised the gravity of his actions and seemed genuinely remorseful towards the end. Almost hoped for a 2nd male lead (even tho i loathe love ▲'s) to end up with Hazuki. To take the 'replacement' schtick that far into bed was unredeemable. Self-respect would never. But Hazuki handled the situation better than I expected; a strong character with a stronger sense of self.
author might as well use red flags for pages jesus fuck
