It's amazing that there was a manga series featuring characters with autism spectrum disorder, just like me. Sadly, the manga ended terribly, because it was discontinued due to the author's premature death. I can't help but wonder how much farther the manga could have gone. Unfortunately, even in today's society there's hardly any manga featuring positive representation of autism.
kidding aside, this is the first time i came across a manga that represents autistic children and the struggles the families experience. although i have seen videos and movies of people with autism, specifically (Extraordinary Attorney Woo Young Woo) i think those just shows the good part of the disability. i mean the positive side, and only little of the negative side. still, it's a good information and makes me realize a lot of things.
Ch 1. I truly pity Hikaru’s mother. I usually don’t finish reading manga that is over 120 chapters.. but I’ll start this because I am really liking the beginning
the author died so the story is kind of in a hang... but at the same time it felt quite complete. a good and educative read about the autism spectrum and their lives and family
This is one of the best pieces of literature I've ever read. Sadly this does end on a odd note due to the authors passing which is why it says "completed" BUT this is the most realistic representation of people on the spectrum I've seen! Not to mention the other realistic problems this series deals with! This series brought loads of different emotions!
I never completely knew what autism meant, never thought that people are born with it. And only knew that people with autism have a hard time communicating, and repetitive behaviour. That's all i knew, I'm glad that i stumbled upon this manga. It showed me what families have to go through every day, all their hardships. And not every autistic person is the same.
This manga is something that I believe everyone should read, especially those who work with children or generally around psychology. I don't know anyone with autism, so this manga was an eye-opener for me. It made me realize how difficult and challenging life with an autistic person is, and my respect for those with autistic family members went through the roof. Even though this manga is on the older side and was never fully competed sadly due to the mangaka's passing, it is truly a hidden gem. (with only 45 votes, like what??) Please give this manga a chance. Everything from the storyline to the characters is remarkable. Also, I'd like to point out that this manga won an Excellence Prize for manga at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival!
Amazing read _ a look into raising a child with a disability and the challenges they face at home with family and social settings such as daycare, medical visits, and more. Wonderful story tellIng.
